SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
K-9 Rex of California State Park’s Goldfields District will receive a bullet and puncture protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K-9 Rex’s vest will be embroidered with the message, “This gift of protection is provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.” Delivery is expected to occur within the next 8-10 weeks.

“California State Parks is thrilled to be the recipient of this charitable donation for K-9 Rex,” said Michael Gleckler, K-9 Program Manager II for California State Parks. “For more than 50 years, State Parks’ K-9 program has protected not only our police officers, but the millions of visitors who come to enjoy our public lands. With this new vest, K-9 Rex will soon be even more protected while out on patrol.”

K-9 Rex and his handler, State Parks Ranger Alex Lucero, patrol Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, a Gold Fields District parks unit. In addition to being trained to locate and apprehend uncooperative suspects while protecting his handler, other officers and the public, K-9 Rex is also certified in narcotics, tracking and evidence recovery.
