(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: Jose Alvarez Benzin Jr. was sentenced on Wednesday, November 15th to a total of 36 months at the St. Cloud, Minnesota Correctional Facility.

Alvarez Benzin Jr. was spared the 97 days he spent in the Mower County Jail since his August arrest at his home near Packer Arena.

ABC 6 News previously reported that Alvarez-Benzin Jr. He is accused of wearing a bulletproof vest and threatening a resident of 709 6th Avenue NW with a gun on Aug. 11.

Alvarez Benzin Jr. pleaded guilty on Oct. 20 to second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and committing a crime while wearing/possessing a bulletproof vest.

He also pleaded guilty to a third-degree drug trafficking charge in January.

Several charges from other incidents were dismissed at sentencing, including a drug possession charge from April, multiple assault charges from an August incident and possession of a firearm with an removed or altered serial number.

(ABC 6 News) – An Austin man is facing six charges after he was arrested with a gun and wearing a bulletproof vest.

The charges against Jose Alvarez Benzin Jr. include three felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and several other firearm-related charges.

Police were dispatched to a home near Packer Arena on Friday morning after receiving multiple reports of a man threatening people with a gun.

“Credit to our staff, they were on scene within two minutes of being dispatched, made contact and were able to apprehend him, thankfully without any injuries,” Austin Police Chief David Mikichan said.

Benzin has been charged and is in custody, and police are investigating whether the gun was stolen.
