Virginia Attorney General launches effort to send surplus police bulletproof vests, tactical gear to Israel


Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has launched an effort to collect surplus body armor, body armor and tactical gear from more than 100 sheriff’s offices in the state to send to Israeli forces fighting Hamas terrorists.

Miyares said if any offices have excess law enforcement protective equipment, his office will collect it and ship it to the Israel Defense Forces. Fox News Digital exclusively obtained a version of the letter sent to Stafford County Sheriff David Decatur.

In his letter, Miyares said he was “shocked by the senseless terrorist attack against Israel” by Hamas, a terrorist organization that has killed 1,400 Israelis, injured 3,000 others, and is currently holding 150 Israeli soldiers and civilians hostage. , I am saddened,” he said.

“The loss of innocent lives and the disregard for human rights is painfully tragic to watch,” Miyares said.

Earlier this year, Miyares launched an anti-Semitism task force dedicated to monitoring and combating anti-Semitic acts across the state.

“Anti-Semitism is the oldest and longest-lasting form of prejudice known to humanity,” Miyares said in making the announcement. “American Jews have dealt with horrific anti-Semitic discrimination and violence that continues today. It will help educate Virginians about hatred towards others.”

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also signed a letter from 19 Republican governors urging President Biden to give them “unequivocal support” as Israel continues its fight against terrorist organizations.

Biden announced Monday night that he would visit Israel on Wednesday in an effort to send a message of his administration’s commitment to the Jewish state, which is at war with Hamas.
