Vancouver man found guilty of selling low-quality bulletproof vests to law enforcement and military

A Vancouver man was sentenced Tuesday to one year and one day in federal prison for intentionally selling low-quality ballistic protection equipment made in China to dozens of domestic law enforcement agencies and the U.S. military. Ta.

Jeffrey Mining, 42, operated a ballistic supplies business called BulletProof-IT from 2016 to 2022, according to a news release from the Oregon U.S. Attorney’s Office. He sold helmets, body armor, shields and other equipment to state, local and federal agencies, including law enforcement, fire departments and the military.

He told buyers that the products were from the United States, when in fact they were from China. For example, in 2017, MyNin purchased 600 helmets from a Chinese company for about $50,000 and sold them to a reseller for $90,000. The reseller sold it to the U.S. Department of State for $107,994, according to a news release.

Mining also lied about safety testing, claiming its products met certain safety standards, according to the news release. But he either did not test to meet the advertised levels or altered the reports to reflect inaccurate results, according to court records.

According to the news release, customers relied on Mining’s false statements and falsified product test results when deciding to purchase Mynin’s products.

Mr. Mynin was indicted on charges of wire fraud in November 2022 and pled guilty to this single charge on March 23, 2023.

After serving his time in prison, Mr. Mainin will be given a period of three years of supervised release.

Robert Hammer, Special Agent in Charge of the Department of Homeland Security’s Seattle Field Office, said, “Jeffrey Mining orchestrated a treacherous scheme behind a veil of deception that undermined not only law enforcement but the fabric of trust woven into the armor of our nation.” I even deceived that person.”
